The Minnesota Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) intends to purchase a portable LightLab 3 High Sensitivity Cannabis Analyzer, needed modules, calibration services, and Law Enforcement training from Orange Photonics, Inc. The kit will be used for mobile testing of leaves, flowers, edibles, oils and other materials to identify and analyze cannabinoids, especially marijuana-derived and hemp-derived compounds. The analysis process utilizes High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) to separate cannabinoids from other substances before quantifying the type(s) and concentration(s) of cannabinoids present in samples.

OCM has determined that the LightLab 3 is the only commercially reasonably available commodity product to provide these services. OCM needs a portable tool for analysis in the field that produces reliable data with the same accuracy as laboratory-based testing equipment. A portable unit with limited accuracy is insufficient for OCM’s need, as is a highly accurate but nonportable laboratory setup. LightLab 3 meets both of these needs. This is deemed a single source purchase because LightLab 3 is solely distributed and supported by Orange Photonics, Inc, and is not available from other third parties.
